Introducing True North Sports Camps!

We are thrilled to announce that the founders of North Toronto Baseball Camp have officially launched a sister camp: True North Sports Camps. From our humble beginnings as wide-eyed university kids trying to create summer jobs, our sports programs have been a staple in the Toronto community since 2007.

Since then, we have expanded our offering to include a variety of complimentary services including private lessons, after-school clinics, and coaches clinics. This year, though, we are looking to make a bigger splash. Under the new True North Sports Camp brand, we will now be offering: Baseball, Flag Football, Basketball, and Multi-Sport.

It’s going to be a game changer. We're not like other camps: We're social; we're flexible; and we hire the best.

Social:

Most businesses and camps have some sort of presence on social media. For us, this is a focal point. Our campers and their families are changing the way they interact and communicate with each other, and we're at the forefront of this movement. Whether its posting pictures and videos on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram throughout the day, or interacting with professional teams and players, we strive to provide the best and most relevant content for both campers and parents alike.

Flexibility:

One of the main reasons we have been in business for the past 10 years (!) is that we listen to the feedback we receive from families. Some of our best ideas have come from parents sending us a quick email or filling out a survey, including Winter Clinics, birthday parties, and coaches clinics. In addition, whether its financial assistance or transportation concerns, we do the best we can to make it work for each and every camper. We've even added a bus service in 2016 to make it easier for our parents during their busy mornings and afternoons.

Culture:

It starts with our hiring practice. From Program Director to CIT, we hire good people. Period. We have developed a unique process to ensure that we select the best possible candidates for every available position. Our rigorous requirements include resume and cover letter, first round interview with Camp Directors (30-60 minutes), second round interviews where necessary, and most importantly, a practical assessment where candidates are tasked with running clinics alongside Camp Directors. While having playing experience and excelling at sports is important, its not our main priority when we’re recruiting. First and foremost, the candidate must be a quality fit with our campers, parents, and other staff. This means they align with our values and have a clear understanding of our goal: to provide the highest quality sports instruction in a fun, safe and encouraging environment.

What does the name "True North Sports Camps" mean?

A lot of people have asked us: What does the name True North Sports Camps mean? To us, True North forms our identity in three ways:

  1. We are proud to be Canadian. True North was a way for us to show this pride, by using the words from our anthem: ‘True North strong and free’.
  2. We have a clear direction. True North represents our vision and strict moral compass.
  3. We remember our roots. Our original camp was called North Toronto Baseball Camp.

We also really like the name :)

Thank You

Lastly, we would like to extend a special thanks to all of the wonderful organizations who have helped us grow over the years. From Stewart Lunan at North Toronto Baseball Association, to Karen Stintz who helped whether the storm of the garbage strike, we have been very fortunate to have the support of local businesses and political leaders.

The reason we started North Toronto Baseball Camp is simple: We wanted to create the baseball camp that we would have liked to attend as campers. Well, that hasn't changed. By continuing to improve and employing best practices, we have developed wonderful programs backed by an exceptional administration.

We hope you will join us for our inaugural summer!

Best Regards,

The True North Sports Camp Team
