As we head into the final weeks of summer, we wanted to share the Top 10 Most Frequently Asked Questions about camp. If we missed anything, please let us know!

1. What do campers need to bring each day?

Equipment: Each camp is different (Baseball, Basketball, Flag Football, & Multi-Sport), but campers should bring the following equipment:

a) Baseball: Glove, a protective cup, athletic clothing, sunscreen, hat, and water bottle. While baseball pants are not required, athletic pants may be a good idea for sliding. In terms of shoes, baseball cleats are optional.

b) Basketball: Athletic clothing, running shoes, hat, and water bottle!

c) Flag Football: Athletic clothing, running shoes, hat, and water bottle! Football gloves are optional.

d) Multi-Sport: Athletic clothing, running shoes, hat, and water bottle!

All team equipment (Bats, nets, etc.) will be provided. As well, any other personal athletic gear is encouraged, as long as it's labelled!

Lunch: Campers must bring their own lunch, snacks and water bottle. We will provide coolers of water throughout the day. Please note that we are a nut free camp and please ensure that all lunches and snacks do not contain nuts.

2. Do the campers take breaks throughout the day?

Definitely! Campers will take at least two water and snack breaks in both the morning and afternoon. The lunch period will also be approximately 45 minutes and takes place in the middle of the day. Our staff are very focused on ensuring that all campers stay hydrated and spend an appropriate amount of time off of the field. On hot and humid days, campers will take more water breaks and the camp might also spend some time indoors depending on the weather.

3. Are the campers divided by age and skill level?

Yes! Campers are divided into groups based on age and skill level. These groups help make camp activities more fun, competitive and safe for every camper. Generally groups are made up of 6-8 campers, however for some days and types of activities, different size groups will be formed.

4. Can my child be in the same group as his/her friend or sibling?

We work hard to accommodate all group requests by campers and their families. On our camp application, parents are able to request that their children are placed in the same group as specific friends, teammates and siblings.

While these requests are almost always manageable, there are times when differences in age and skill level prevent campers from being placed in the same group. However, our directors will let a parent know if this is the case and will explain the reasoning behind their decision. As well, campers spend less than half of their time at camp in the initial “skill groups,” and efforts can be made to pair campers together whenever possible.

5. My child has not played much baseball/basketball/flag football before, is this camp the right fit?

We definitely believe so! True North Sports Camp was founded on the principles of providing high quality instruction in a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere. Our goal is to foster such an atmosphere for children of all ages and levels of athletic experience. Campers are divided into groups throughout the week based on age and skill level. Our coaches are given the flexibility to alter the types of activities that different groups participate in. As well, these coaches work hard at their ability to provide different teaching styles based on the age and skill level of their campers.

The directors and head staff of True North Sports Camps put significant thought into camp programming each week to ensure that both beginners and expert players alike can have an amazing camp experience. This is accomplished through the different activities made available to campers, the different groups campers are placed within, and the different forms of instruction that campers receive.

6. Where is the camp’s indoor facility in case of rain?

The camp’s indoor facility at Memorial Park is both Forest Hill Arena & North Prep, located next to the baseball fields. The arena has an ice pad that has been cleared for the summer and the camp will spend much of the time it spends indoors focusing on baseball related games and activities. The camp will also have access to the arena change-rooms and will set up games and movies in those rooms. At JRR, the campers have access to the school gym where basketball camp is held.

Please remember to check your emails during rainy days for information from the camp regarding any changes to the drop-off and pick-up location.

7. Can I get a Children’s Fitness Tax Credit from True North Sports Camps?

Yes! True North Sports Camps qualifies for a Children’s Fitness Tax Credit. To receive a tax credit of up to $500, feel free to submit your True North Sports Camps invoice with your income tax.
